BIS CRS

Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) certification/registration is required for all electronics products sold in India that are listed under the government of India’s Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). It provides customers with a third-party guarantee of product quality, safety, and dependability. In order to protect public health, the government has made BIS Registration mandatory for 49 products.

 

As per the BIS CRS Scheme order, no manufacturers shall be allowed to sell, import or distribute electronic goods that are not up to the mark for Indian standards. All the products must have the BIS CRS mark and be unique.

BIS ISI Certification

The mark certifies that a product conforms to an Indian standard developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards, the national standards body of India. ISI stands for the Indian Standards Institute, for orderly commercial growth and maintaining quality in industrial production. The term “ISI mark” continues to be used to mean that a certain product conforms to the quality standards set up by the government.

FMCS is applicable for the grant of license for all products except electronics and IT products notified by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The license is given by FMCD (Foreign Manufacturers Certification Department) to foreign manufacturers.

TEC

TEC works with the Government of India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to develop and implement various standards and policies for the safe and secure use of emerging telecommunications technologies. TEC had published specifications for measuring the quality of telecom equipment. The three types of specifications (SR) are generic requirements (GRs), interface requirements (IRs), and service requirements.

EPR

Extended Producers Responsibility, is a policy of the government under which producers are given the vital responsibility for the treatment and disposal of the consumer goods. The EPR authorization is mandated for the producers, importers, manufacturers, and brand owners.

According to the Plastic Waste Management guidelines (2016), the ministry of Environment, forest, and climate change remarked on the minimal thickness of plastic carrying luggage, which has been extended from 40 microns to 50 microns.

As per section 22 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 the Legal Metrology Department issued approval for the model. Model Approval in India under the legal metrology Act 2009 is a certificate issued to the manufacturer and importer for approving the weight and measurement products. This certificate indicates that the product is as per the Indian metrological standards. According to section 22 of the Legal Metrology Act the manufacturer or importer of the product has to obtain the model approval from the central government through its Department of Legal Metrology, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, located in Delhi. Without valid model approval usage or selling or manufacturing or importing of any kind of weight or measure is illegal.

BEE

The government has proposed to make it mandatory for certain appliances in India to have ratings by the BEE starting in January 2010. The mission of Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to “institutionalize” energy efficiency services, enable delivery mechanisms in the country and provide leadership to energy efficiency in all sectors of the country. The primary objective would be to reduce energy intensity in the economy.

Specific absorption rate

SAR

SAR is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed per unit mass by a human body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. It can also refer to absorption of other forms of energy by tissue, including ultrasound. It is defined as the power absorbed per mass of tissue and has units of watts per kilogram (W/kg).

SAR is usually averaged either over the whole body, or over a small sample volume (typically 1 g or 10 g of tissue). The value cited is then the maximum level measured in the body part studied over the stated volume or mass.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances.

ROHS

RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products (known as EEE). All applicable products in the EU market after July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.

 

IMEI

IMEI is a 15-17-digit code that is given to every mobile phone. This number is used by service providers to uniquely identify valid devices. Specifically, IMEI code can enable a  Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) or Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service (UMTS) network to prevent a misplaced or stolen phone from initiating calls. IMEI is also a part of mobile device management.

It is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organizations. The ISO makes standards and guidelines for a variety of businesses and purposes and publishes technical reports. It was founded on 23 February 1947 and the organization promotes worldwide proprietary, industrial and commercial standards.

It operates in 162 countries and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The name ISO is not an acronym but comes from the Greek term isos implying equal, which means that if two things reach the same norm, they must be equally represented

WMI:- World Manufacturer Identification

WMI

WMI registration is an abbreviation for World Manufacturer Identification Registration. This form of registration follows the international standards of registration when it comes to identifying the quality aspects related to vehicle manufacturers around the world.

In India, this form of registration is mandatory for all forms of car manufacturers. The main regulatory body for this form of certification is the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).  Around the world, all car manufacturers have some form of identification for vehicles.

Such identification of vehicles is carried out through the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). This number is a unique identification number which consists of 17 digits. This serial number for the manufacturer provides some form of uniqueness to the vehicle produced.

CDSCO

CDSCO is India’s national regulatory body for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. It serves a similar function to the European Medicines Agency of the European Union, the PMDA of Japan, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States, and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency of the United Kingdom, and the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China. The Indian government has announced its plan to bring all medical devices, including implants and contraceptives under a review of the Central Drugs and Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).

Wing of the Ministry of Communications, created in 1952, is the National Radio Regulatory Authority responsible for Frequency Spectrum Management, including licensing and caters for the needs of all wireless users (Government and Private) in the country.The certification for WPC is required for the process of any form of radio-frequency enable device.

UL

UL is a safety consulting and certification company headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, United States. UL provides safety-related certification, validation, testing, inspection, auditing, advising, and training services to a wide range of clients.

 

CB

CB

The IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE) Certification Body (CB) Scheme is the world’s first international system for the mutual acceptance of electrical and electronic equipment, devices, and components safety test reports and certificates.

 

The CB scheme is an international method for the mutual recognition of product safety test reports and certificates for electrical and electronic equipment and parts. Manufacturers who have undertaken CB testing and CB Scheme accreditation may be able to acquire access to other CB Scheme member countries, avoiding the need for extensive, redundant testing. Because no additional testing is required, a CB scheme applicant receives priority consideration from NCB.

The term FCC refers to an independent U.S. government agency that oversees all interstate and international communications. The FCC maintains standards and consistency among types of media and methods of communication while protecting the interests of consumers and businesses. It allocates cellular and wireless access, regulates media company mergers and acquisitions (M&A), protects intellectual property rights, and regulates standards of content and distribution for all media companies operating in the United States.

CCC

The China Compulsory Certificate mark, or CCC Mark, is a mandatory safety symbol for numerous products imported, sold, or used in the Chinese market.The 3C or “CCC” marking system requires manufacturers in over 132 product categories to obtain the CCC Mark before exporting to or selling in the Chinese market.

 

Products not meeting 3C or “CCC” requirements may be held at the border by Chinese Customs and will be subject to other penalties. 



It is the result of the merger of China’s two previous mandatory inspection systems, namely “CCIB” (Safety Mark, introduced in 1989 and required for products in 47 product categories) and “CCEE” (also known as “Great Wall” Mark, for electrical commodities in 7 product categories). 



CE

CE

The Conformité Européene (CE) Mark is defined as the European Union’s (EU) mandatory conformity marking for regulating the goods sold within the European Economic Area (EEA) since 1985. The CE marking represents a manufacturer’s declaration that products comply with the EU’s New Approach Directives. These directives not only apply to products within the EU but also for products that are manufactured in or designed to be sold in the EEA. 

A CE Mark is a symbol that must be affixed to many products before they can be sold on the European market. The mark indicates that a product:

  • Fulfills the requirements of relevant European product directives
  • Meets all the requirements of the relevant recognized European harmonized performance and safety standards
  • Is fit for its purpose and will not endanger lives or property
TISI

TISI

The TISI has been established as a department under the Ministry of Industry since 1 January 1969 by virtue of the Industrial Product Standards Act B.E. 2511 (1968). Its principal responsibility is to carry out national standardization activities in order to promote the development of Thai products to the acceptable quality, to increase the competitiveness of Thai industry in the world market, and to preserve the environment as well as to protect consumers by ensuring safety in lives and property.
